Who Sells Kindle
When it comes to who sells a Kindle, there are many places but likely few in your city. The main outlet of course is the source, Amazon. You can also find online stores and individuals, and places that offer new, used, and refurbished ones. Where you buy a Kindle comes down to what works best for you. But trying to buy one locally is more difficult than buying a Kindle online.
Who sells Kindles that have been announced but have not yet been released? For the latest models announced but not yet released, the fastest way to get one is to pre-order one at Amazon. After the release date, you can also get the newest models from some retailers and online stores who sell Kindles.
Who sells Kindles after the release date?
First the list, then a discussion about what makes sense:
Who Sells Kindles – List of Sellers
- Amazon, the maker and original source
- Local stores
- Stores with a web site store
- Online stores
- Auction stores (eBay and other auction web sites have some “stores” for sellers)
- Online auctions
- Other online sources such as Craigslist
- Friends and acquaintances for used Kindles
Who Sells Kindles – Local Example
Local store options are very limited. It takes time to make calls and go see what a store has on hand. It’s not easy. Take my city of Tigard, Oregon, a direct suburb of Portland, for example. I went into an AT & T store at Washington Square Mall. They had one Kindle on display. One! Are you kidding me? Of the many current models, they had one! So, the next day, I looked online for who sells Kindles. I gave a staff worker a list and had him make calls. Now you’d think there are many who sell Kindles, wouldn’t you? See this chart of what he discovered:
Who Sells Kindles – Research Table
|Target||Y||Y||Wi-Fi and 3G|
|Staples||N||N||Has another brand|
|Office Depot||Y||Y||Wi-Fi and 3G|
|Best Buy||Y||Y||Keyboard 3G; can pre-order the new Touch and Fire models|
|Walmart||N||N||Has another brand|
|Radio Shack||Y||N||Wi-Fi and 3G|
|AT & T||Y||N||Wi-Fi and 3G|
As you can tell from his research, there are not very many good options for who sells Kindles in our major metropolitan area. And there is also little choice to buy a Kindle on one of their web sites. I had high hope for Fry’s Electronics, but they don’t carry them. And neither Staples nor their online store carries them. Office Depot had two models when we called them.
Is There Anyone Else Who Sells Kindles?
Who sells Kindles among online stores? Circuit City, one of the largest Internet stores for electronics and now an online store only after closing its local stores, has none. For the term “online store kindle,” the highest ranked web site after Amazon, “astore,” has them, but hovering over the image links show that it is an Amazon associate store, not an independent store. The second highest ranked store, M-EDGE, appeared to sell Kindles, but it is deceiving. The pictures of Kindles on their site are just for selecting the one you might already own so that you can select what is for sale – accessories. So, I wasted a bunch of time searching and still my best bet for who sells Kindles online is Amazon.
Where else can you find who sells Kindles? You can find them at some auction sites. Take eBay for example. But beware. There is bidding, waiting, and most of those who sell Kindles sell them at close to retail. I’m not sure why. The margins must be pathetic is all I can guess. I do know that much has been made of Amazon selling Kindles at a loss, so perhaps narrow margins makes sense. eBay sellers often have Buy-It-Now offers. That takes care of the waiting. Then you have to figure out how to find just the Buy-It-Now ones among the thousands who sell Kindles. You can do that using the third tab. Does it save any money? Not often. The Buy-It-Now price for Kindles can be just as high – and sometimes be higher than – the suggested retail. To find a savings takes a lot of time and work. You need to sort the listings by price with shipping included. For that you need to enter your zip code and choose a shipping method. Oh, yeah, be sure to check the reputation of the seller. Wow, it’s just a bother!
I looked on Craigslist. Little is available. And the hassle of local pickup is still there and reputation checking of those who sell Kindles on Craigslist is not an option.
After much research and many phone calls, I have concluded that where I will buy a Kindle is at the one place that has them all, has all the options, has all the details I need for comparison, has many accessories, offers full warranties, will be easy for the required registration, and is fast and simple. If you, too, want the easiest purchase experience, Amazon may be your best option of all those who sell Kindles.
